Use Savvy With an Internet Marketing Blog

There are a number of uses for a blog. Some may opt to use their blog as a way to muse their philosophical thoughts. Others may use it as a forum to present news on a multitude of subjects. Then, there are the savvy individuals who use it as a means of marketing. Such a strategy is a brilliant one because an internet marketing blog can work wonders for promoting a product or service and increasing sales. Best of all, this type of marketing strategy can be employed without significant expense.

While the purpose of the blog is promotional, the blog’s content can stand on its own as entertaining or informative. This is what separates a solid internet marketing blog from a “spam” blog.

Specifically, a spam blog is that it contains very little text or illustrations. It is mostly links and brief promotional blurbs for whatever it is the blog is hawking. While such blogs are common they really are not all that effective. Yes, these types of blogs may attract incidental traffic but the results are more or less inconsequential. Spam blogs are not the way to go if you are serious about internet marketing. There are much better options available instead. These better options come in the form of a more creative blog.

That will aid in building an interested audience which will, of course, contribute to it’s primary objective: successfully marketing a product or service. 2. Include RSS feeds so people can subscribe to your blog. RSS (most commonly translated as “Really Simple Syndication”) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works, such as blog entries and news headlines. Popular RSS feeds include Google, Yahoo, Bloglines, and Netvibes.

3. Use trackback links when you quote from or refer to other blog posts. A trackback is one of three types of linkbacks, methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking and referring to their blogs.

4. Respond to comments readers make on your blog. Have a conversation. Often, this will take you in directions you could never have imagined. Blogging is interactive in that way. If your blog is static, it defeats its purpose engage readers.

5. Create tags for every blog post so that search engines can find your blog. A tag is a keyword or term assigned to a piece of information (such as an internet bookmark, digital image, or computer file). Use the same tags all blogs you write on the same topics. For example if you write about blogs, use tags such as blogs, blogging, blog posts.

6. Create a “best posts page” category on your main page; link to your best posts. Blog posts tend to become lost or forgotten as the months go by. Read through your previously published posts, and chose several that still have relevance and resonance. Remember to repeat the same tags.

7. Remember, you’re a resource; provide value. Web surfers have notoriously short attention spans. If they happen to land at your blog site and don’t find anything useful, they will move on, never to return. They certainly won’t register for your RSS feed. But if you consistently give readers something of interest and use, they may register for your RSS feed.
