A Course in Miracles (ACIM) is a non-dualistic spirituality which contains a set of guidelines regarding the psychotherapy of the split mind. Understanding these metaphysical aspects assists in the practical application of the principles contained in ACIM when making choices. Without actual application, these principles are just ideas; but with application they become an experience, and experience changes everything. The metaphysical portion is a great identifier of the ego’s judgmental thought system as well as a heavenly reminder of what is true about ourselves.
Looking at metaphysical descriptions on paper and becoming aware of their attributes is of great benefit in knowing what you are choosing both for and against a course in miracles . Keep them handy, and refer to them often as you navigate the choices in your life.
Here are some very simple points to consider about the metaphysical aspects of ACIM:
The Un-Healed Mind – the super-unconscious mind is where the “tiny mad idea” of separation began. It is accessible via the conscious awareness of what is going on in your life acim . The ego doesn’t want you to remember that the idea was just a choice; but the mind remembers where it came from. It naturally returns to peace when you choose the Holy Spirit Right Mind.
The Split Mind – the unconscious mind contains sin, fear and guilt from that original separation idea. This is the basis of the ego’s thought system of judgment as it divides out. Remember the ego’s judgment above: Separation is a sin punishable by death. For having separated, it now places guilt in the mind; and says you must be fearful of the now vengeful God who wants to kill you for what you’ve done. The kill or be killed (one or the other) ego judgments as seen in the sub-conscious and conscious behaviors begin to make sense considering their origin in the mind.
The Right-Mind – the split mind and the two conflicting thought systems is very evident. Compare the two sides to know what you are choosing in any given moment. These very clearly illustrate the psychotherapy of the mind and having lists makes it readily apparent why one system of thinking hurts and the other heals. You can only choose one thought system, or interpretation, at a time because it is always one or the other. You still retain the decision maker. Which one will you choose?
The ego wrong mind is based on judgment and separation from others going back to the original separation idea. That separation sin now punishable by death which also contains the beginning of guilt and fear. When you choose the judgmental ego as cause, your effect is:
victim/victimization – judgment – projection – addiction – grievances – hate – anger – war – specialness – death – forgive to destroy – sin – fear – guilt – special relationships
The Holy Right Mind is based on sharing and oneness and returning your mind back to the peace of God and out of the illusion of choice. This says that the error never occurred and you are still as God created you. There is nothing else. When you choose the Holy Spirit as cause, your effect is:
True forgiveness – Holy Relationship – Holy Spirit Judgment – Shared Interest – Sameness – Healing – Forgiveness – Love – Peace – Life – Sinlessness – Guiltlessness – Fearlessness – Oneness – Truth – Knowledge – Heaven
I invite you to further study the metaphysical aspects associated with A Course in Miracles. Understanding their ideas and principles helps in applying them to your life as you choose your way out of the illusion. They are a set of guidelines straight from A Course in Miracles that show you what each aspect is all about. More than that, you can consider the origin of both aspects and their respective intentions. When combined with how you truly feel, the ego’s motivations are obvious when compared against the Holy Spirit’s truth.
Knowing what to choose goes a long way but always remember that you are the one who must travel this inner path into the mind. You have to do the actual application of the principles contains in A Course in Miracles and do the work of choosing. It’s as simple as that. ACIM is a Course in mind training!
This innocuous book came to my attention in 2005 and it has passed through my hands several times since. I had no inclination to peruse its contents for I had ceased to believe in miracles. In 2005, I was cursing God for abandoning me. I was using all my energy to stave off the hell I descended into 15 years earlier by marrying a man as un-Godly as anyone could be.
In 2007, while packing some books as donations for a book fair, my hand once again fell on “A Course in Miracles”. By this time, I had secured a divorce from my husband but was still dealing with the fallout. As I grasped the book, I became very thoughtful and calm. What was it about this book that invoked feelings I hadn’t experienced in a very long time? My hand clung to the book refusing to put it down. Realizing that this was a sign that I had better take a closer look, I made a cup of tea and sat in my favorite reading chair. With great curiosity, I focused on the blue hardcover and read “A Course in Miracles, a foundation for inner peace.” Wow. That was a pretty bold statement but okay, I decided to bite. Taking a deep breath, I pondered the most obvious question: What IS the foundation for inner peace? This book instantly opened an old wound and it had better have the answer to healing.
“A Course in Miracles” is truly that, a course. Written in three parts, this book is not to be taken lightly and cannot be read in a week or even a month. There is text, a workbook for students and a manual for teachers. I had the sudden urge to fling the book across the room because I was deeply and profoundly afraid. I instinctively understood that once I began reading this book, I was going to have to change and was I ready for the journey ahead?
My favorite movie is “The Matrix”. The main character Neo is searching for the answer to the matrix. He understands the matrix exists but he doesn’t know what it is. The man with the answer, Morpheus, contacts Neo and offers the opportunity for truth by giving Neo a choice between taking a blue pill or a red pill. Take the blue pill and remain ignorant or take the red pill and find the answer to the matrix. Before he reaches for his pill of choice, Morpheus cautions Neo that should he choose the red pill, he can never go back to the life he had been living.
“A Course in Miracles” is the red pill. Do I read it and change everything I know about the world and myself or do I take the blue pill and make “A Course in Miracles” book fair fodder?
